about

This was my debut solo record. At the time I wrote it (early to mid 2007) I was pretty depressed. Listening now, I think you can tell. At the time I was in a big-sounding indie band, and wanted to do something different with loops and synths and so forth, as well as writing some songs about things that were maybe a bit heavy and serious. I remember a fantastic week recording the vast majority of the album with Harun in Southampton where the ideas flowed and we really hit upon something cool.

After playing live with this album for a while, I got a bit scared and retreated towards rock band territory again. Sometimes I wonder if that was the best plan, but as a snapshot of where I was when I was 23 (!) this is pretty spot on. As usual with me, I made some ridiculous decisions and wilfully didn't make as much of things as I could have in terms of pushing the album and building on it. It's also just a bit too, well, different for anyone who might have listened to my stuff, but i love it. This is the record of mine that I come back to.

Now you can have it for free. Bonus!
